My heart was set on Egypt, but sailing the Nile and seeing the Pyramids will have to wait for another chapter. The past has taught me to always trust my intuition, because rarely, if ever, has it led me astray, when given my full attention. My head said one thing, and my heart another, but I chose to look past the latter this time.
The situation in Egypt is very fragile, unfortunately, and I found myself running up against constant flight cancellations, and a flood of negative information from fellow travelers and various news outlets. After the third failed flight, I accepted the signs, and allowed myself to adjust my expectations. Change is always hard, even when it’s necessary…
The trip, as a whole, was nothing short of amazing. From the moment my feet first touched the ground, it was filled with surreal sights, sounds, smells, and tastes. I have never been keen on favorites, but DRC has etched its way into the deepest parts of my heart, and I will forever cherish my time there – for the beauty it holds, and the lessons it taught me.
It has been one hell of a ride.
